OperaLex

Overview

OperaLex is a nonprofit organization that supports opera in the Bluegrass region, primarily through backing the University of Kentucky Opera Theatre Program. They offer substantial annual contributions to cover production expenses and engage professional directors aiming to enhance student experiences.

Problem
OperaLex didn’t have standarized branding for their their seasonal newsletters and co-branded events, fundraisers, and marketing materials. They also wanted a new look-and-feel for their seasonal newsletters.

Solution
To address their multiple channels, I created rules around their current brand color palette, logo usage and introduced a font system to use across printed and digital collateral. Additionally, I created an illustration system that reflected their involvement with classical and modern music and achieved versatility across different use cases.

Slice of Life Pie Company Branding

Overview

Slice of Life Pie Company is set in central Lexington, KY near The University of Kentucky*. At SOL Pie Co, we offer local delicious homemade sweet and savory pies like no other. Buy whole, half or by the slice.

Problem & Solution
We saw several areas in Lex’s food space that could be filled with our sweet and savory pies like having access to late night snacks other than fast food and bar food. We don’t claim to the healthiest, but we can be transparent and source local when possibe. We also wanted to cater to multiple palettes, households, and incomes by offering pies by the slice, half, or whole.

Lexington Farmers Market Rebrand*

Overview

The Lexington Farmers Market exists to provide a living wage for farmers; sustain farms & farm land; provide Lexington with fresh, high-quality, accessible agricultural products; and stimulate the local economy. Located in the heart of Downtown Lexington, Kentucky this market proudly operates April through October.

Problem

LFM excels at bringing community together, but wants to develop two new programs in order to support the wider central KY food ecosystem. The brand also needs a strategy to differentiate two new operations.

Solution

This rebrand aims to establish a stronger presence in the central and Lexington, KY community, to create awareness, provide educational resources, and encourage regional engagement.  With the addition of two initiatives, Bits & Bites (food truck) and Bloom & Bounty Harvesters (food recovery & distribution), an illustration system proves crucial to support the mission, values and purpose of LFM. Lastly, an updated design and logo system will allow continuity across existing, new and future initiatives coordinated by LFM.

Bird’s Nest Brand Concept

Overview

Bird’s Nest is a coffee house and cocktail bar set outside Lexington, KY. Consider it your home away from home. We’ve created a space where you can work all day and then unwind after hours.

Problem
With the adoptance of WFH/remote work, people find themselves stuck in their homes creating a sense of cabin fever. Unfortunately, most coffee shops also open early and close in the evening, which doesn’t accomodate those who want a place to relax after hours.

Solution
Bird’s Nest offers a way for people to drink to their heart’s content – coffee during work hours and cocktails after hours. Focusing on brand persoanlity, color, and type positioning is the secret to this brand’s success as the environment these elements inhabit will shape the customer’s experience. The illustration system will also compliment the rural location out of the city to offer a relaxing space.

Breadwinner Bakery & Cafe Brand Development

Overview
Breadwinner is located in downtown Rochester, NY* and offers a variety of bread, pasteries, and all-day coffee. Stop by to satiate your breakfast grumblies and your midday munchies.

Solution
Rochester is a great place to open a food business. Along with setting up in a busy location, the brand wants to differentiate itself from local competitors by positioning its illustration and personality to a playful and youthful audience.
